Socket Preservation

A Vital Step in Dental Care

Socket preservation, also known as alveolar ridge preservation, is a specialized dental procedure performed after tooth extraction. Its primary goal is to reduce bone loss and preserve the tooth socket within the alveolar bone. Dr. M. Ihsan Kayali excels in this technique, ensuring optimal outcomes for patients.

Why Is Socket Preservation Important?

Socket preservation is crucial in preventing bone resorption, which typically follows tooth extraction. Natural healing processes lead to bone remodeling, but socket preservation minimizes this resorptive process, maintaining the jawbone’s dimensions. Additionally, this procedure helps in preserving soft tissue contours, ensuring aesthetic results by maintaining or enhancing facial and interproximal gingival contours. A well-preserved socket also provides an ideal foundation for future dental implants, facilitating successful implant placement.

The Procedure

The socket preservation process begins with a thorough examination, including X-rays and digital imaging, to assess the extraction site. Based on the patient’s unique case, Dr. Kayali selects the most suitable grafting materials. On the day of the procedure, patient comfort is paramount. Dr. Kayali administers local anesthesia and offers IV sedation for deeper relaxation if necessary. The procedure involves skillfully placing bone graft material into the socket to rebuild the jawbone and restore natural contours. Titanium screws may be used to stabilize the graft for seamless integration. The incision is then carefully closed with sutures to promote proper healing. Detailed post-operative instructions are provided to ensure a smooth recovery.

Dr. Kayali’s commitment to socket preservation ensures both functional success and a beautiful smile. If you have questions or wish to schedule a consultation, please feel free to reach out to our office.
